The Rainbow Baby After The Storm.
As the mama of a fiery little redhead, I now just kinda have this thing for redheads. I get so excited that it’s almost embarrassing. I’m sure it will be one of those things that my daughter, Reese, will be shushing me over once she’s old enough to actually be embarrassed by mom. But, I digress. Baby Josephine had one of the fullest little heads of hair- and red nonetheless! I could see how very special this little girl was from the moment I got my first peak into her car seat carrier. The way her sweet mommy talked about her little miracle with so much adoration was completely heart melting. After losing 5 pregnancies, one of which was the still-birth of Josephine’s big brother, Truitt; Josephine was the rainbow after the storm that her parents prayed long and hard for. She was the perfect definition of a sweet little rainbow baby.
When Josephine’s mama emailed me to book their session, I felt so honored to have been chosen to document this huge milestone for their family. Josephine was already earth side when her mom and I first spoke so I got right to work on designing her session!
First and foremost, I knew we just had to incorporate the fact that Josephine is a rainbow baby. My favorite way to do this is by keeping it somewhat subtle. We went for an all white setup, and added in a few soft, pastel rainbow finishing touches. She couldn’t have looked any more adorable!
This has been one of my favorite shots lately and one that I plan to continue adding to most newborn sessions! Just as a side note, this is a visual effect, and baby is not at all hanging unsafely (or at all really, she’s safely snoozing on her back!).
I really love shooting on ivory/cream and have several new neutral & earthy backdrops in route to me that I can’t wait to use on some of my upcoming babies! We finished up our shoot on a second day so that Josephine’s dad could join us. It was so nice to break the sessions into two parts like this and a very popular choice I’ve had a lot of families make lately!
