Bentley’s mama, Kirsten, joined my extended family recently when she married my cousin-through-marriage, Skyler. I was so very excited to be able to help their little family celebrate Bentley with a 1st birthday photoshoot! This beautiful boy gave me some of the sweetest, most soulful stares! While big gummy smiles are always welcome, organic expressions are one of my favorite things to capture.
Fun fact- I use this same {beige} teddy bonnet & stuffy in many newborn and baby milestone sessions. I utilize the magic of photoshop to help color coordinate it to our setup 🙂
If this isn’t the first time you’ve read about my work- you’ll know that one thing I try to emulate from each and every one of my photos is the power of simplicity. I want all focus on your baby. This is one of my top reasons for always including what I call “Expressions Images” (like the one above) into every newborn & milestone session. This is where traditional photos meets modern children’s portraiture; and they come together to create a truly timeless image.
While some photographers do an absolutely beautiful job designing elaborate cake smash sets and bringing them to life for their littlest clients, it just doesn’t fall in line with what I do. When booking a 1st birthday photoshoot with me, we’ll talk more about a color scheme than a theme. We’ll choose 3-4 setups for traditional photos and end with a modern, naked smash cake. To me, this is a recipe for creating the most timeless images that you will deeply cherish for a lifetime.
